Getting Around
Ottery St Mary is located just twelve miles east of Exeter, three miles off the A30 and less than ten minutes off the M5. Easily located for commuters the nearest train line is located just three miles away at Feniton from which Exeter is just a short twenty minutes away. The nearest airport is Exeter International which is located just eight miles from Ottery and offers many national and international flights, both long haul and short haul, including commuter flights to London Heathrow.
A trip to the shops
Ottery draws in day trippers and ramblers attracted to an array of traditional tea shops and local owned craft galleries. As well as locally owned businesses Ottery has a variety of shops and businesses which include a supermarket, high street banks, independent retailers, restaurants and public houses. The city of Exeter is only a short journey away where there is a large selection of high street and larger chain stores.
Taking Time out
It may be a small town but Ottery has something for everyone, its facilities include all-weather basketball and tennis courts, a bowling green, rugby ground, football pitches and a cricket club. Otter Nurseries is just a short distance away and is a beautiful garden centre founded in 1964 and has grown to be one of the largest in the UK! Every year Ottery has Jazz festivals, a food festival, a carnival day and its traditional and unique Tar Barrels event, but don't worry if that sounds too much for you Ottery is located just 6 miles from the seaside where you can relax and soak up the great British sun. It is also known as a walker's paradise as there are more than 100 footpaths stretching along the River Otter.
Education
The local primary school, Ottery St Mary School, holds around 350 pupils and for the 11 - 18 year olds The Kings School which has been rated outstanding by Ofsted is a comprehensive and designated sports college, is situated on the outskirts of the town and holds approximately 1000 pupils. There are also colleges and sixth forms situated in Exeter and Honiton which can be easily accessed through various bus or train journeys.
